I've always loved mid-century modern architecture, and while I was living in Durbanville until early this year, I lived in a house that was a classic example of this style which I adored. The house was near-unrenovated since it was built, so it still had yellow flass windows, orange carpets and wallpaper and leather concertina doors! I was surrounded by these types of houses in the Northern suburbs which was a big trend as the suburbs were developing between the 50s and 70s. I started to paint this piece in oils when I knew I'd be leaving the 'burbs behind and moving to a village where houses are more plaaslik and modest
